July 5, 1983: Late in the day, the AT began to skirt a huge complex called Big Meadows which sprawled across acres of ridge crest. A short climb on a side trail brought me to the summit of Black Rock (not to be confused with Blackrock, a summit I traversed further south in Shenandoah).

Make an Heritage Trail

Has anyone seen this bill from the US state of

It seems to want to basically treat all as motorcycles, but sets out nonsense regulations that are in some cases also easy to circumvent

A lot of this bill reads like 'EBIKES ARE NOT NORMAL BIKES AND THEREFORE WE WILL PUNISH THEM'

On the other hand, there are a couple of ideas here that aren't terrible, but they're strangled by the rest of the document

Check it:

June 1, 1983: I have never seen a storm just collapse like this. Within minutes, the day had gone from rainy and cold and windy to sunny and warm and breezy. The lingering clouds adding a touch of drama to the tableau were visibly shrinking right before my eyes.

August 10, 1983: We did not leave her house until 6:00, and we still had eight more miles to go in order to reach the side trail to the shelter, and another half-mile on the side trail. About two hours of daylight remained. At the house, we learned that it was supposed to rain tonight, so we were determined to make it.

The Great American Rail-Trail

"A grand scheme of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy to build a continuous, off-road multi-use trail from the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to the Pacific Ocean in Washington State a trail across the entire United States."

This article is more about connecting to the trail, but it's pretty interesting.

September 12, 1983: I had one final meal of solid food before resuming the backpacking phase of my trip today and my return to gourmet fare like rice and instant oatmeal. I started on the trail at 1:45 this afternoon. That was okay. There will be plenty of time to revel in the freedom of backpacking once again. About three weeks remain in this adventure.

Im just thinking about how the mountain bikers on my local trails today, and honestly every day I go out, are very considerate and polite. People use bells consistently to announce their presence, and several times someone saw me coming up the trail, and waited to start the segment until I had come all the way up so that they wouldnt be barreling down at the same time.
I appreciate you, mountain cyclists!

China Ranch Date Farm & Bakery.

Had a great hike and a date shake.

Tecopa, California.

I miss this trail. It was always empty and peaceful to run through.

What a beautiful winter day it has been today.

October 3, 1983: Except for one incident, which was only bad for a few moments, the climb up Hunt spur was fun. It was maniacally steep, it had many tricky parts, and it was strenuous as hell, but I rather enjoyed it. It was the last big climb.

fans, who is your favourite protagonist from the series. They are all strong in my opinion but for favourite I have to go with Estelle Bright. She is the antithesis of the broody male protagonist with a dark past that is typical in so many . She is bright, positive and optimistic (if slightly naive at times) and she has a positive effect on everyone she meets. A breath of fresh air when it comes to RPG, and indeed , protagonists

Going to put together my new today. I'm excited to get out there and explore the trails around here.

July 6, 1983: About a mile later, after a climb, the trail skirted around an enormous mass of ancient, exposed rock sitting atop the wooded crest. A short spur trail led to the base of the outcrop. Marys Rock towered high above the deep Blue Ridge pass called Thornton Gap.

So muddy out on the trails thanks to the rain and the grazing, wandering cows. Makes for an especially strenuous hike, but I like the challenge.

June 10, 1983: The Appalachian Trail wandered an incredibly circuitous course from Rhododendron Gap, where I left my film, to Pine Mountain. The old AT, now a blue-blazed side trail, once connected the two points with two easy miles of level ridge walk.

August 8, 1983: I passed park benches also swarming with humanity, most of whom seemed to be staring at me, wondering what the hell I was doing walking through that park with a backpack on. I did not do much to reassure them. I could see that most of them thought I was a psycho, and that had me constantly breaking out in fits of laughter, which no doubt convinced them.

A few more pics from Day 1 morning hike in

Mouth of Basque: confluence of Basque River (left) and Brazos River, which then continues as Brazos. And nice picnic spots nearby.

Deceptively innocent-looking trail entries that entirely deserve names like "Act of Faith".

I'm no geologist, but even I'm impressed by the layers of sediments in the ground. Love that the park has such features exposed for everyone's education.

Day 1 morning : 4.6km hike in the "very berry" hills of Cameron Park. Trail is shared "hike & bike", and I can't even begin to imagine how anyone might ride a bike there, but apparently people do.

Would've liked to hike more but decided to only get an idea of the trail for another visit and save energy for activities later in the day.

"Jacob's Ladder", great river & forest views, lots of hackberries, surprisingly large amt of bamboo.

After the ice storm. Scoville Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. February 6, 2021, 4:31 PM.

A week ago, I joined a bunch of mountain bikers and other trail enthusiasts for a screening of The Engine Inside put on by Mountain Bike Missoula. There was huge energy in the room and a double dose of inspiration.

The announcement that the Forest Service may be reopening the State Line Trail is a great reminder of the power of a group of people dedicated to keeping trails open. Thanks Mountain Bike Missoula for all the work to save our favorite places to ride!

If you havent already, consider joining your local mtn bike/trails association. It really does make a difference. Plus, they often host fun events like this.

May 21, 1983: The trail around Charlies Bunion was not as scary as other backpackers had led me to believe it would be. Nevertheless, it was impressive. The clouds had lifted just enough to give me nice views into the fog-shrouded ridges and ravines heading down the Tennessee side of the range and a good look at the precipitous drop

Boquete Mountain Trails, Panama The Hills Have Eyes

Although a huge draw for tourists, take into account some recent incidents before heading out alone on the Boquete Mountain Trails.
