Amazing Heritage Trails from around the World.

Portland Arch in Covington, Indiana

One of Indiana&s only natural, sandstone arches is nestled between resort ruins and an old Boy Scouts camp.

July 9, 1983: The first seven miles of trail were another game of lost-in-the-woods. When it was over, I sat down to rest for ten minutes on a rock beside the trail. Five minutes after resuming my hike, I passed a park bench in the middle of a clearing surrounded by a pleasant forest grove. I wished this spot had been mentioned in my guidebook.

All told, the city is considering $27 million worth of trails, paths and greenways, totaling 32 miles.

This would be very good for Tucker. Right now Tucker feels to me as if they have accommodated cars at every turn: multi-lane stroads, strip malls, and large lots. And all of that has caused awful traffic. Alternative ways to get around would help.

Trail Sense is a tool, and just like any other tool that you bring into the wilderness, it's essential to have backup equipment and skills. One of its goals is that its features should make use of the sensors on a phone rather than relying on stored information such as online guides.
* Designed for hiking, backpacking, camping, and geocaching
* Place beacons and navigate to them
* Follow paths
* Retrace your steps with backtrack
* Use a photo as a map
* Plan what to pack
* Be alerted before the sun sets
* Predict the weather
* Use your phone as a flashlight
* Estimate height of a cliff
* And much more!
So you'll notice with this app there is no quick download of some map or guide. The idea is to prepare before departing with photos of your map, putting waypoints in, etc.

An Android app that uses your phone's sensors to assist with wilderness treks or survival situations. - kylecorry31/Trail-Sense

May 3, 1983: At a spot called Three Forks, four miles from Springer Mountain, the crossed a fire road beside the convergence of three streams which had become raging torrents. A blinding mass of rain was creating a surreal, semi-aquatic woodland.

Andrew DeVries Sculpture Trail in Middlefield, Massachusetts

Dozens of bronze sculptures are woven into the landscape along this trail.

Please dont hike with bear bells. Theyre proven not to work, and only annoy other trail users as this article describes ..

Take heed however of the warning that trail running in bear country is highly discouraged. You do NOT want to surprise a bear.

June 6, 1983: West of the Blue Ridge, the mountains over which I am now hiking are a big change from those I had traversed up until now. These are long folds in the land stretching for miles. Their ridge crests tend to be heavily wooded, with nothing resembling a summit peak to break up their flat-topped profiles just an occasional wind or water gap cutting through.

Hiking Dominguez Canyon, Colorado.

September 6, 1983: I have always been fond of South Twin. At 4902 feet, it is one of the loftier summits in New Hampshire, and the ridge crest has an extensive alpine zone. It is somewhat more remote from roads than Franconia Ridge, and thus, one can usually find an escape from the hordes of hikers swarming Franconias summits. Today was no exception.

Sunset clouds. New Britain Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. July 20, 2020, 8:05 PM.

May 18, 1983: Derrick Knob shelter was in an excellent spot, similar in appearance to Russell Field. About a dozen small deer were wandering around nibbling the grass and the lower leaves, and they let me approach surprisingly close.

Good hiking on the mountain this afternoon. Nice warm sunny day. T-shirt weather!

Johnson Beach in Pensacola, Florida

A pristine beach on the Gulf of Mexico with deep ties to Pensacolas Black community.

May 18, 1983: A lot of ups and downs along a rolling stretch of ridge crest brought us to Russell Field Shelter a beautiful spot. Years ago, before these mountains became a national park, folks used to farm their ridgetops.

Sing me sunlight and shadows 2 (h/t Jackson Browne), Mattatuck Trail, White Memorial Foundation, Morris, Connecticut. October 26, 2023, 4:19PM.

July 10, 1983: Shortly afterward, the trail left the road, went into the woods, and entered West Virginia. The last few miles of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia drifted back and forth across its state line with West Virginia. The trail for the most part was on rocky old woods roads.

Last call to join us for a Snowshoe Adventure with Waterloo Region Nature this Thursday at 1:00 p.m. See here to register:

June 5, 1983: Although the hiking was rather easy from that point on, the woods continued to be very buggy. The heat and humidity of the day were slow to abate as the afternoon wore on. The Appalachian Trail followed the ridge with no major climbs or descents to Vanderventer Shelter. It was 5:00 when I arrived.

Burnin' Sky (h/t Paul Rodgers and Bad Company), Hidden Lake, Fall Mountain, Plymouth, Connecticut. November 7, 2020, 4:51 PM.

Big spiderweb in the mountain laurel, Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden, Connecticut. June 1, 2023, 7:44 PM.

August 13, 1983: The Appalachian Trail went into Dark Entry Ravine, ascending through the perpetual twilight silence of an old hemlock forest. Long years of decomposing fallen needles had buried the boulder-strewn ground and transformed it into a soft, lumpy carpet. It was lovely, even though the stream was barely running.

Dramatic sunset just off the Tunxis Trail. Near New Britain Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. September 8, 2020, 7:10 PM.

Conditions pretty icy, but what a gorgeous weather we had today.

May 6, 1983: My camera received heavy use this morning as well, as I traversed another group of scenic ridges with equally picturesque names.

Translated the latest map of and added it to the Wiki. Be aware it contains locations introduced in still unlocalised games.

September 30, 1983: After the shelter, the AT descended for a half-mile to Pemadumcook Lake, which was even bigger than Lower Jo-Mary. A short side trail led to a point along the shore with an awesome view of Katahdin across the lake, but only the dimmest outline of the mountain was visible through the haze. It looked even closer, but it still seemed like a dream.

Ich war kurz im Elm. Es war sehr matschig. Aber ich hab nen neuen Trail gefunden.

One Of The Best Campgrounds In Wisconsin Is Open For Adventure Year-Round

July 5, 1983: Late in the day, the AT began to skirt a huge complex called Big Meadows which sprawled across acres of ridge crest. A short climb on a side trail brought me to the summit of Black Rock (not to be confused with Blackrock, a summit I traversed further south in Shenandoah).

Has anyone seen this bill from the US state of

It seems to want to basically treat all as motorcycles, but sets out nonsense regulations that are in some cases also easy to circumvent

On the other hand, there are a couple of ideas here that aren't terrible, but they're strangled by the rest of the document

June 1, 1983: I have never seen a storm just collapse like this. Within minutes, the day had gone from rainy and cold and windy to sunny and warm and breezy. The lingering clouds adding a touch of drama to the tableau were visibly shrinking right before my eyes.
